Everybody Sing

Raising your voice in song does raise levels of endorphins, the brain chemicals responsible for feelings of pleasure, and has been tied to a whole symphony of other health benefits. According to www.singing.com, vocal training not only allows people to develop confidence but also helps promote beter lung function, strengthen the back and oxygenate the blood as well as reduce feelings of depression and anxiety.

Come to the music room at the end of any choir rehearsal and you will see this theory played out.

Better yet, come to the beginning of the rehearsal and join us and you will experience all of these benefits and more.

The choir rehearses at 6 pm on Fridays and by 7:30 you will be rejuvenated and off to enjoy the rest of the evening.

Two Choirs Festival

This winter our choir and the choir of Grace Episcopal Church in Nyack, NY joined forces to present a very exciting concert that included the Mass in G by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Written for two separate choirs and soloist the work is sung a Capella! Vaughan Willaims was one of the most influential composers of the 20th century. Our hymnal has 22 hymns written by him, the most famous being “For All the Saints”. The second half of the hour long program was folk songs and a Gospel favorite of the choir and this congregation: Keith Hampton’s arrangement of “Praise His Holy Name”.

Our choir traveled to New York on Sunday, February 25, 2007 and presented the program at Grace Church at 7:00 pm. The very next Sunday, March 4, 2007 the Grace Church choir came to Ocean City and we presented the same program here in St. Peters sanctuary.

John Bate was Organist and Choirmaster at Grace Church from 1972-1987.
