The Food Cupboard , located on the first floor of St. Peter's Church, provides
free food, paper products, and soap and toiletries to needy persons in Ocean
City. It is staffed by volunteers from 9 OC churches which comprise the OC
Ecumenical Council. Recipients are usually referred to the Food Cupboard by
one of the area churches or the city Welfare Dept. The person is then given an
amount of food according to the size of the family. Food supplies are assembled
from food donated throughout the community or purchased from area stores,
and it is always according to nutritional guidelines. On special holdiays, eg.
Thanksgiving and Christmas, recipients are given a food gift card that they can
then use to pay for food purcheases are area supermarkets.
