Hospitality

WHAT IS IT?

What started as a small circle of young women, reaching out to each other when their babies were born, became transformed into a full ministry. St. Peter's Hospitality Committee was organized to meet the needs of our church family any time there is a short term need, by providing complete meals, delivered to your door.

These may be seven consecutive days, every other day, once a week...whatever meets your need the best. We provide meals to families with new babies, to those having experienced a death in the family, to homes where a person has been discharged from the hospital, to persons under special stress - any situation where a gift of food might be appreciated. Over the years, hundreds of lives have been touched by this ministry through the giving and receiving of meals.

In 2006, 365 meals were prepared and delivered to 44 families of St. Peters UMC.

WHO ARE WE?

We are more than 110 women and men who volunteer to prepare meals, deliver meals, work on the Core Committee for “group cooking” - filling our freezer with emergency meals, or serving on a monthly basis as a “Calling Captain” - making the calls to line up meals. We also sponsor an annual Cookie Reception for Volunteer Recognition and contribute food for special church events. The Hospitality Committee is represented on the Council on Ministries and the Church Council. While we have a small budget for purchasing food for “group cooks,” delivered meals are contributed by the person who made them.
