Hello Everyone!!!

Just checking in with everyone!! I started my new project this week at the Place of Hope in Athlone, Cape Town! It is a home for women and children who have suffered abuse or have HIV/AIDS and don't have any other options. It's quite eye opening in that women come in everyday with black eyes and bruises all over them from abuse and also purple lesions relating to HIV/AIDS. It can be pretty sad day after day, but rewarding as well. The children are adorable and just loved to be loved through hugs and playing outside and just talking to them. There is a creche on site where about 10 children attend school each day. The teacher, Angela, is a God send to this place and they are very lucky to have her! The manager Jenni is also a wonderful lady who cares very much about her job!! It is a nice place to work for my last weeks here in South Africa!

This weekend was great! We toured the Cape Peninsula where we saw the African penguins in their natural habitat and we also saw Simons Town where the SA Navy is stationed! We then continued on to Cape Point where there is a very famous lighthouse that isnt really a big deal but was nice to see! We also got to see the Cape of Good Hope where we took lots of pictures in front of the sign, but there isnt too much else to see! Other than that the weekend was relaxed and enjoyable. I met some great new people one from the US!! Just tons of fun here! Thanks again for all the emails...makes being away from home much easier!! Love you all and miss you!! Libby:)

    Libby,

It is wonderful that you are there to offer love to these fragile abused children-as the hands and feet of Christ. What a blessing for them.

Thank you for reminding us of the great needs thoughout the world. It is all too easy to forget in the comfort of our communities.

    God be with you,
    Shirley Hawthorne
